Lately, I've been thinking.

How far did you have to walk to get some clean drinking water today?

What do Santigold, Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Lupe Fiasco all have in common?

They, as well as several others, are CURRENTLY climbing all 19,340 feet of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Tanzania, Africa to fight the global clean water crisis and more importantly to raise awareness about this ongoing issue.

They are, doing this extreme thing to qualify the extreme nature of the issue. The climb, which began this morning at 5:30am, will likely take seven days and is more than 50 miles of treacherous terrain.

Along the way, the celebs will be posting tweets, photos and video blogs about the climb on the highly interactive website:

You can also follow the effort on Twitter:

There are over ONE BILLION people in the world who do have access to clean, safe drinking water.

Please visit the website and AT LEAST familiarize yourself with this issue and learn how we can help solve the problem.

Thank you!

(Oh, and if you can bare to part with the Jersey Shore for a night [*barf*] MTV will be chronicling the climb in a 90-minute documentary scheduled to air on March 14th at 9 p.m.)
